A day of surprises, 02-03-2019

The level was raised once more on day 3 of the Yonex Dutch Junior International. At some point in the day it seemed as though no match could end without being extremely exciting in the third game.

Impossible to choose a match of the day, but after a short delibiration, top spot was taken by England’s William Jones and Brandon Yap who saw off fierce Malaysian opposition, only to claim victory 30-28 in the final game. The look of joy and amazement on the faces of the English coaches was almost as priceless as the victory cries of the English double themselves. Commissarations to Jhy Dar Ooi and Roy King Yap (no relation), but we foresee a bright badminton future for these great players.

A shock result in both singles events, where this years’ top seeds were beaten. Another sign of just how evenly matched the entire playing field is in this Dutch Junior.

The day almost ended on a high for the dutch fans, but Wessel van der Aar and Brian Wassink missed a couple of matchpoints in their doubles match. A great performance by the two youngsters, but sadly no next round for them. Earlier today Wessel also lost his mixed double, which ended Dutch hopes for a final alltogether.

Plenty more today! Quarterfinals later on, please come and visit or check our livestreams.
